| The vision for an organization of referees established to serve the high
school water polo community, and at the same time open the lines of communication
between coaches and referees, was born at a picnic table outside of the
Avery Swim Center at Stanford University in February of 2003. Rick Curry
and Rich Donner shared a vision that the increased popularity of Water Polo,
particularly amongst the women throughout the United States, warranted the
birth of an independent association of water polo referees that we have
named the Peninsula Referees' Association (PRA). Unlike many other officials' associations, our sole purpose is to enhance the participation in high school Water Polo for the referees as well as for the coaches, players, and spectators. The PRA is an assigning association accredited by the California Insterscholastic Federation. Its service area currently ranges geographically between San Francisco and Morgan Hill. We are pleased to announce that in 2008, the PRA has contracted its services to approximately 45 high schools (approximately 180 boys and girls varsity and junior varsity teams) who compete within the BVAL, PAL, SCVAL and WCAL athletic leagues. The PRA is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of referees and high school coaches. All serve voluntarily for a term of 2-years. PRA Home Page |
